Problems Encountered Along the Way

During our filimg there were several problems which we encountered. There are many things which we had to decide on the spot, in order for our film to work successfully. Some of the problems we encountered are the following:

  • One of the main problems which we encountered, was fitting the whole of our storyline in our short film. Because of timing issues, we realised that we would have to cut out a significant part of our storyline, and change it completley so that it made sence. Originally, the main charecter Lily, would be see in a car crash with her parents, which fatally killed them, forcing her into care, where she ran away. Whilst running away, she became homeless, and met Annabelle. However due to the timing issues, all of this had to be cut out, so that in fact the story began with Annabelle and Lily already knowing one another, whilst they were on the streets.

  • Another problem, was the lighting in our filming. We planned for many of our shots to be shot during the night, to give the storyline a more realistic and edgy effect. However, when going out to film during the night, we realised that the quality of the footage was very poor due to the lack of light. To solve this, we filmed during the day time, and edited the footage which we wanted to be during the night in Final Cut Pro, using the 'dusk' effect. This meant that we were able to get the time of day that we wanted, whilst keeping the high quality footage.

  • An ongoing problem we faced, was that the equipment we used to shoot our short film. Whilst out shooting, the battery we used for our camera regularly died, meaning that filming had to be postsponed. However, we solved this, as the following times we went out to film, we made sure that the batteries we used were fully charged, and also took multiple batteries just in case. As well as this, the leveller on the tripod was constantly loose, which made it hard to get a steady and straight on shot, as we were constantly having to adjust and change it

  • As well as this, at the beggining of our filming, we found it very difficult to arrange shooting dates where all of our production team were avalaible, as the team being in full time education and having part time jobs, meant that we had minimul free time.
